If you have ever dreamt of Lauterbrunnen wedding photos with cows, mountains, and waterfalls, this one is for you.
This lovely couple had their wedding months ago, but they knew Switzerland was where they wanted to capture their portraits. They reached out asking for dramatic scenery, beautiful light, and a relaxed, fun photography experience. I said: cow bells, waterfalls, and Swiss charm? Say no more.
We based ourselves in Lauterbrunnen for the day, staying at the most delightful little guesthouse tucked in beneath the cliffs. If you are planning your own post-wedding or elopement shoot in the Bernese Oberland and want accommodation recommendations, just send me an email at amanda@amandajoy-photography.com—I am always happy to share the gems I find.

Why Lauterbrunnen Is Ideal for Wedding Photos in Switzerland
Lauterbrunnen is one of those places that feels too good to be true. Waterfalls tumble down sheer cliffs, alpine houses line the valley floor, and in spring, the meadows come alive with wildflowers and grazing cows. The couple wanted cows, and let me tell you, Lauterbrunnen delivered. At one point, I turned around and said, “There are literal waterfalls falling behind your heads right now. And cows. And wildflowers. This is ridiculous.”
We spent the morning wandering through flower-dotted fields, with the cliffs rising up dramatically behind us. The couple were relaxed, playful, and completely in the moment—exactly the kind of energy I love to capture. We stopped beneath cherry blossom trees in full bloom, found quiet pathways with iconic church spires in the background, and even made friends with a few curious cows.

From Cow Bells to Waterfalls in One Joyful Day
Midday, we made our way up to the Schilthorn. I will be honest—this would not normally be my first choice for wedding portraits. It is a great view, no doubt, but the viewing platforms do not offer the same open space and intimacy I usually look for. We chose it out of necessity, as many of the other mountain railways were closed for spring maintenance. Still, with the snow-covered peaks stretching out in every direction, and this couple’s genuine joy, we made some magic up there too.
To wrap the day, we drove to the Giessbach Falls. This location is a little out of the way but so worth the effort. The waterfall walkways and lush green forest create a completely different mood from Lauterbrunnen—more dramatic and moody, but still utterly Swiss. If you are looking to add variety to your Lauterbrunnen wedding photos, this is a spot I highly recommend.
By the end of the day, we had portraits with cows, mountains, and waterfalls—every one of their must-haves checked off. But more importantly, we had a full gallery of images that felt like them. Not stiff poses or forced smiles, just real moments in stunning places.
