Visiting from Australia, they embraced every moment of their late summer evening, moving easily from laughter to quiet tenderness against the backdrop of Lake Lucerne.

The Bürgenstock Resort, perched high above Lucerne, is one of Switzerland’s most impressive destinations. Its terraces overlook the lake, with mountains stretching endlessly beyond. Yet what made this evening special was not only the beauty of the location, but also the way these two leaned into the experience. Their joy and closeness gave the photographs a warmth that no view alone could provide.

Beginning at Villa Honegg

We met at the Bürgenstock before continuing up the winding road to Villa Honegg. As my clients were guests at the Bürgenstock, where the service is second to none, they were able to drive us along the private road that links the two hotels. This made the transition between the grand resort and the more intimate Villa Honegg feel effortless, and it gave us time to enjoy the unfolding mountain views on the way.

Villa Honegg sits slightly higher on the ridge, offering uninterrupted views over Lake Lucerne. If the Bürgenstock feels striking and modern, Villa Honegg feels serene and personal, perfect for creating romantic images.

We shot the photographs at Villa Honegg in full afternoon sun, which made the landscape vibrant. The images revealed two perspectives that made the session unforgettable. From the open field above the hotel, the lake stretched out in a vast expanse of shimmering blue, framed by mountain peaks on every side. Turning in the other direction, the valley leading towards Engelberg opened up in layers of green, creating a softer, more pastoral backdrop.

Terrace Pool Reflections at the Bürgenstock

Later, back at the Bürgenstock, we spent time by the terrace pool. The water caught the light of the setting sun and created gentle reflections that framed the couple beautifully. Unlike the famous infinity pool at Villa Honegg, this quieter terrace felt more private, allowing them to simply relax together while I photographed from a distance.

These moments offered a balance to the wide landscapes from earlier in the afternoon. The reflections softened the scene and highlighted the closeness between them.

Returning to the Bürgenstock Terraces for Sunset

As the evening unfolded, we stayed at the Bürgenstock to finish the session. This was the perfect choice: the lake glowing in golden light, Lucerne beginning to sparkle in the distance, and the couple moving together across the wide terraces.

They paused often, gazing out across the railing. At one point, he draped his jacket over her shoulders while she smiled up at him. It was a simple gesture, but one that captured the tenderness between them. These unplanned moments are what I treasure most as a photographer.

As the sun set, they danced barefoot on the grass. There was no music, only laughter, and the quiet joy of being fully present. These are the memories that photographs preserve long after the evening has passed.
