Alsace, France – Family Feature

It’s not everyday I’m asked to shoot on location in Alsace. But now I have been, I think I have been ruined forever!

To take advantage of a brand new day at Lake Lac de Longemer, I had a pretty early start from Basel. Leaving at 5:30am, I drove myself up through the waking vineyards and the Vosges to our location. The sun was rising to my right, while the moon was still high on my left. I traveled past hot air ballon’s taking flight and treated myself to an early morning croissant, fresh from the boulangerie in Munster. We were in for another scorcher of a day. Lac de Longemer was the perfect place to be for it.

We had been trying to get this shoot on the books for a while, but the wait was so worth it! Lac de Longemer in Alsace holds a special place in this family’s heart and it’s easy to see why. This place is magical. I still love looking through their gallery to see the joy on their faces. It’s obvious they all have a deep connection to this place. I’m so happy to be able to capture a little bit of their story here.

Lac de Longemer is just a quick hour and 40 minutes from Basel (including that stop for a croissant!). So if you ever feel like heading out of town for a day it would be an easy day trip option. As you can see from the photos here, Alsace is more than just Colmar and Strasbourg! Here is what Kate had to say about their experience with me at this location:

“I have just finished looking through all the shots and they are lovely, really they turned out so great.  You captured so many beautiful moments between us as a family.  I think both Harry and I were apprehensive at first as we don’t like posing for photos or having some stiff family shots.  The movement and emotion means so much more to us than having everyone smiling at the camera and you nailed it.  Now the difficult part is to choose my favourites!!”
