A quietly spectacular corner of the Swiss Alps, only a short trip from Interlaken
If you are visiting Switzerland and looking for unforgettable mountain scenery, a Rosenlaui Valley photoshoot near Interlaken is an experience that feels both peaceful and cinematic. Rosenlaui is one of the most dramatic valleys in the Bernese Oberland, and it is easily reachable as a day trip from Interlaken by public transport during the summer months.
What Makes Rosenlaui One of the Most Beautiful Valleys in Switzerland
I visit the Jungfrau Region often for sessions, but Rosenlaui feels different. The moment you turn into the valley, the mountains begin to close in around you, and the rock faces climb straight up into the sky. It is the sort of place that makes you stop mid-sentence.
A Rosenlaui Valley photoshoot near Interlaken is ideal for families who want dramatic scenery without requiring a long hike or a difficult journey.

How to get to Rosenlaui from Interlaken
Rosenlaui is part of the famous Reichenbach valley that leads up toward the Wetterhorn and the Rosenlaui Glacier. It is about 30–40 minutes from Interlaken, depending on your starting point.
You can drive, but be aware that the road becomes narrow and twisty. In many places there is room for only one direction of traffic, so you need to stay alert and use the passing bays. If you are not used to Alpine roads, it can feel intense.
I chose the PostBus, which was far more relaxing (service between May-October only). Watching the professional driver navigate hairpin after hairpin was worth the ticket alone. I simply sat back, enjoyed the views, and arrived without needing to unclench my jaw.

Why Choose a Rosenlaui Valley Photoshoot Near Interlaken
What makes Rosenlaui so iconic
This region is famous for a few reasons and deserves every bit of its reputation.
- The Rosenlaui Glacier sits at the head of the valley and feeds the river that runs through the meadows.
- The Rosenlaui Gorge (Gletscherschlucht Rosenlaui) is one of the oldest tourist attractions in Switzerland. Since 1900 the gorge has been open to visitors annually, offering a walkway carved through blue ice water, polished rock, and thundering cascades.
- The views of the Wetterhorn are some of the best anywhere. The mountain rises with sharp vertical drama, and at golden hour the entire face glows apricot.
- Historic charm. The region is home to the Hotel Rosenlaui, a beautifully preserved Belle Époque hotel with no televisions, no minibars, and no modern noise. It is peaceful in the way Switzerland does so well.

A quick stop at Hotel Rosenlaui
My clients and I arrived a little early, so we stopped for a cuppa at the historic Hotel Rosenlaui. Everyone told us to try the apricot torte. We listened. It was delightful, but we were not there for cake. We were there to make some photos.
Most of the crowds had cleared for the day, so the valley felt like it belonged to us. Still, we had two brilliant interactions as we made our way through the fields.
First, a couple who were photographing landscapes kindly let us take over a prime viewpoint for five minutes, which was generous because it was a good one. Then a group of men visiting from Saudi Arabia stopped us and asked if we wanted tea. They had carried a battery powered teapot up the valley, and the tea was very strong, very sweet, fresh, warm, and exactly the sort of moment that makes travel feel magic.

Golden Hour Portraits in Rosenlaui Valley
One of the most beautiful places in Switzerland
This family is one of my favourites. Caring. Quick to laugh. Always up for an adventure. They also happen to love heavy metal together, which is my kind of energy.
This Rosenlaui Valley photoshoot near Interlaken took place at golden hour, after most of the crowds had already left the valley. When the sun finally dipped low enough to paint the mountains gold, we got to work. We made relaxed portraits, captured real warmth between mother and son, and then let them run and play through the fields surrounded by one of the most jaw dropping backdrops in Switzerland.
The final images are vibrant, joyful, and full of life. Exactly what the Alps do best.
