Five Tips to Surviving your Family Photo Shoot
Hey Friend!
So, you’ve done the research, considered the cost and made the exciting choice to document your family in a unique and authentic way with a photographer who’s images take your breath away.
Fantastic!
And then you realise you have to get your family organised and enthusiastic about the task ahead too. Where do you even begin? Here are five of my best tips to survive your time in front of the camera.
1 – Prepare, prepare and prepare some more.
Organise your outfits and to do list well in advance. Book any salon appointments for haircuts, make-up or mani-pedi’s that are needed. Pick your outfits out and organise on a labelled hanger for each family member. Clean everyones shoes and make a master list of all the items you will need to bring with you to the shoot.
2 – Keep the kids well fed.
A nutritious snack for your kiddos before your shoot will do them a world of good. Think proteins, fruits and veggies to keep them full and grounded. Bring water bottles and snacks with you to the location for extra hydration and sustenance throughout the session.
3 – Let the kids lead
I will be there to guide our session from start to finish and get all the important shots and locations in, but when I feel like the kiddos are getting a little over the idea of more photos I let them take the lead for a little bit. It makes them feel that their ideas are good and that they are part of the whole process and most importantly, gets them back in the game.
4 – Give yourself plenty of time on the day.
This one is easy. However long it takes you to normally get your family ready, double it!
5 – Relax
This is one to two hours where you can focus on one thing, and one thing only. Your beautiful family. I want you to hug, kiss, dance, snuggle, tickle and love on each other during the session so you have nothing but happy memories of the process and what went into making these memories happen. It is not a time for stress but for you to enjoy each other and this beautiful country we call home.
