A Basel Family Feature in Basel Stadt

As an expat in Basel, it is quite possible the only language you understand is your mother tongue. Listening to people around you seems to turn into white noise as you don’t yet understand Swiss German. So as it would happen, when you overhear a person speaking your native language as you go about your business,  it’s entirely natural to just strike up a conversation.

This is exactly what happened with Shawna and I almost 2.5 year ago. Both having a breather with our babies in Drei Käse Hoch, we got to chatting. Her oldest and my youngest are less than a month apart in age. We exchanged numbers, hoped to reconnect and then life got busy once more. A short time later, our family moved. While out for a walk with my kiddos in our new neighbourhood, there she was with her boy out walking with their dog Sheldon. And so began one of my very treasured friendships here in Basel.

I couldn’t have been more thrilled with their latest photo shoot! We had the perfect weather for an afternoon jaunt around Alt Stadt and down to the Rhein. There has been plenty of activity in the Munsterpaltz of late so I haven’t been able to shoot there for a while, and I miss it! But the Rhein always delivers and the sunset was another cracker too. I’ve said it before, but I feel so lucky to have these amazing locations to shoot among while your families are the stars of the show.
