Swiss Vacation Family Feature – Lynzy and Ryan Part 2
I absolutely love showing off my backyard to families enjoying their Swiss Vacation. Lynzy and Ryan were beyond amazing to work with! I was so excited that I was able to spend TWO days with them while they were here!! If you missed the first part of our adventure, check out those photos right here!
On our second day, we decided a trip to an alpine lake was in order. We we packed the cars up and headed one valley over towards a tiny little town called Kandersteg. It’s just a blip on the map but it is the starting point to two great adventures.
The first being, it is the loading point for the Lötschberg Car Train. This is so fun! You drive your car onto the back of a train, and instead to driving hours of mountain passes to get from Northern to Southern Switzerland, the train takes you and your car through a mountain. A fantastic option if you need to save yourself some drive time. The kids love it too!
The second adventure, and definitely the most popular one, awaiting in Kandersteg is the short hike to Lake Oescheninsee. This lake has become more popular in recent years. It is still relatively quiet compared other popular tourist spots in Switzerland. I’m not sure why more people don’t come here because it totally kicks arse in terms of mountain adventures.
I knew I wanted to give Lynzy and Ryan some iconic Swiss lake and mountain photos, and this location does both beautifully.
Oeschinensee is such a great spot for families. It’s an easy hike down to the lake from the gondola station (although the walk back up will set you buns on fire!) and the path is stroller friendly. There are two restaurants on the lake so no packed lunch is required. There is also a fully provisioned store for those wanting to simply grill a sausage or some stick bread over a fire. They even sell the firewood there. It’s a true gem to enjoy on your next Swiss Vacation!
It was so fun to show Lynzy and Ryan this little slice of heaven. We let the kids play on the shore and toasted marshmallows over a smouldering fire with these jaw dropping views behind us.
In other words, we had what you can call the perfect family day out!
